As a Painter, Sculptor and Graphic Artist, Dennis Richards' work was first exhibited in 1982 at Lliamigua Gallery located on Fort Street, Basseterre, St. Kitts. Secondly, at Spencer Cameron Art Gallery which was dubbed "Portrait Of An Artist." There in 1992, Dennis was fortunate to have met Oprah Winfrey the world renound talk show host who bought one of his paintings.
Some of Dennis’ Paintings can be viewed at the General Post Office, The Treasury Building, The National Olympic House and the National Bank on Port Zante, where he has 16 original paintings on display.
Dennis was the first resident of St. Kitts to have gained a Trademark in his home recognizable by "SKB Black Sand Logo." Invariably, he worked at the Government Printery as a camera man and later as acting government printer. Additionally, Dennis was involved in the gazetting of his Trade Mark.
On two separate occasions Dennis was featured in Carib Scope, St. Kitts / Nevis Visitor Magazine and also in the Independence 10th Anniversary Magazine. In Europe, he was featured as an Artist on CNN’s “Breakfast with the Arts” show.
In 2001, Dennis designed the Population and Housing Census Stamp and was also one of the winners in the stamp competition to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Independence in 1983. To this date, he has been credited with designing eight stamps for SKN Federation. Dennis has been chosen as of one of the winners in the Stamp competition to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Independence ($25.00 denomination). His winning entry was used as the official logo for the celebrations.
Included are some of the logos that Dennis has designed in his portfolio and received recognition: First, the logo displayed on the caps of the school children during Independence Celebrations. Secondly, The Ministry of Tourism and Culture, The E.C.C.B. (Eastern Caribbean Central Bank), The Peoples Action Movement logo and Fulton Bakery. Thirdly, The Children’s Dance Theatre to include the cover design for the 12th Conference of Caricom Heads of Government (Press Kit Cover) from June 24th July 4th 1991. Fourthly, The Official Independence Celebrations Program cover that Dennis named “Nation on the Move." The Lambers Plantation Inn Logo. Finally, The State Service cover and Independence Magazine cover referred to as “Birth of a New Nation."
In 1984 Dennis was the winner of a design to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Abolition of Slavery, a Sculpture of that was erected at the Deep Water Port. While working at the Government Printery, he designed many Greeting Cards for the Governor and various Ministers of Government and the Krunkitts packages for Nova Foods Ltd.... The 58 meeting of the International whaling Commission’s Logo, Posters and Banners were some of his designs that were recognized and displayed internationally. Additionally, Dennis was afforded the opportunity of designing and painting, the Back Drop for the opening and closing celebrations of the Festival, for Carifesta IIV.
In the world of fashion, Dennis has been featured on the stage with some of the region top fashion designers in the “ Show me your body” fashion show, featuring his Black Sand T- Shirts, at the Marriott resort in St. Kitts. He has also design winning Bath suits and Gowns featured in the Miss. St. Kitts Queen show on two occasions.
Presently, Dennis is the proprietor and owner his own business called Booyork’s Art Gallery located in the Sir Lee Moore’s building in Basseterre, Kitts. His Black Sand T- Shirts designs are geared to promoting St. Kitts as he is Hooked on Sugar City with an altruistic penchant for his homeland. He is currently a member of the Local stage Management team
Dennis' diversified background includes his participation in sports and the arts. Some Cricket Teams he participated in since his return from living in the United States are as follows; Youngsters, Renown, Eskimo and the Garden Cricket Clubs.
He has been a volunteer for the Music Festival from the inception to now the 12th Anniversary, World Cup Cricket, National Carnival to include active participation in various aspects of Carnival for over 35 years. Dennis has served on various national committees and has been a judge for many carnival events and art competitions. He also participated as a Background Vocalist with Mick Hyliger and Wongo in 2004 St. Kitts Music Festival staring Keith Pole and Bing Charles in collaboration with Tornado Band. In 1972, Dennis was a member of the group New Concept as a bass player, which toured the Eastern Caribbean with great success. Other credits include: Vocalist with Ashanti Band 1984 Carnival, Opening Acts for Beris Hammond, Marcia Griffith (Bob Marley and the whalers), Third World, Buju Banton, Frankie Paul, and many others to numerous to mention.
Currently Dennis is a lecturer of Art and Timber at the Clarence Fitzroy Bryant College, St. Kitts.
